When is the best time to travel to England?
We are very lucky in England to have four distinct seasons which show the country off in very different ways. Summer remains the most popular time to travel to England but largely due to that being holiday season and the easiest time for families to travel together. The weather is much warmer during the summer months and being further south, England is usually a little warmer than Scotland. The days are longer and BBQs become popular with everyone enjoying balmy evenings outside until the sun sets and the temperature drops. Christmas and New Year are also wonderful times to visit England and then you are able to enjoy cosy evenings in front of log fires as the nights draw in and the weather drops outside. Spring and Autumn are also fabulous times to visit as in Spring the daffodils coming out and the trees beginning to grow their leaves is such a joy after a hard winter and in Autumn there are plenty of cool, clear, crisp days with the sun shining on the golden leaves on the trees. Some tourist attractions are only open during the summer months which is something to consider when planning when to visit England.
Which are the main tourist attractions in England to visit?
This is a difficult question to answer as there are so many wonderful tourist attractions to visit in England. Obviously London has lots to offer any visitor whatever your interests with Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, Madame Tussauds, The London Eye, The Houses of Parliament and boating on the River Thames amongst the most popular sites to see. Stonehenge in Wiltshire draws a huge number of visitors each year to visit the most well-known prehistoric monument in Europe. There are wonderful beaches on the south coast in Devon and Cornwall that are well worth spending a day or two at if you have small children. Also, worth a visit is Chester Zoo, Longleat and The Eden project. When we organize our bespoke itineraries we try and include visits to lesser known attractions and sites that don’t have so many tourists and are slightly off the beaten track.
Which is the most popular part of England to visit?
The Cotswolds is extremely popular with its pretty yellow sandstone villages and rolling countryside. It offers the quintessential English experience to anyone visiting with quaint little antique shops, some wonderful restaurants and great gastro pubs. There are some stunning large country houses to rent in the Cotswolds too from where you can enjoy everything on offer in the comfort of ‘your own home’. The Lake District is also very popular although quite some distance from London if you’re arriving into Heathrow from abroad. The scenery is stunning and there are some beautiful walks, the lakes themselves and you can discover the world of Beatrix Potter. Cornwall is extremely popular particularly with those who live in England. There are wonderful beaches and some great surfing but in the summer holidays they can become very overcrowded and the small windy lanes difficult to navigate when driving about.
